What is Sculptra?

How does Sculptra work?
Sculptra is injected below the surface of the skin; it is injected directly into the area facial volume loss. Skin thickness decreases as people age. Sculptra works to restore a gradual increase in skin thickness. The facial volume will be restored to one of youthfulness. Hollow areas will be filled out, such as lines under the eyes and laugh lines. Sculptra gives a lifting effect to reduce face sagging. Sculptra offers the benefits of a face lift without having to resort to surgery and its associated risks.
Results appear 4 to 6 weeks after the first treatment.
Is there any risk of allergies with Sculptra?
There is very minimal risks of allergies. No skin testing is required prior to use.
Are the results from Sculptra immediate?
No. After your first treatment, it may appear that Sculptra worked immediately. This is because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra. After a few days, when the swelling goes down and the your body absorbs the water, you may look as you did before your treatment.
Sculptra takes time to gradually correct the depression in your skin and wrinkles and restore volume. This is because Sculptra stimulates your own body to produce collagen. Our body needs time to produce the new collagen.
How many treatment sessions are required?
Most clients would require 2 sessions of treatments, spaced 1 month apart. Each session utilizes 2 vials of Sculptra. Clients with severe facial volume loss such as those in their 50s or 60s may need up to 3 treatments sessions. We inject 2 vials of Sculptra at each session.
How long do treatment results last?
Many patients have up to 3 years of results. After the results have worn off, you may have another top of session. You may need only 1 session of treatment for the top-up. If you do not wish to have any more top-ups, your face will return back to its original appearance, not worse than before your Sculptra treatments.
Do injections of Sculptra hurt?
Our injections are tolerable. We apply ice and numbing cream over the area before injection to minimize any discomfort. Sculptra is injected in small amounts using a very fine needle. The Sculptra is mixed with a anaesthetic solution to make the area numb.
There is no need to take any painkillers after the injection session.
What can I expect to happen at a treatment session?
Our aesthetic physicians at Mediviron UOA Aesthetic Clinic will answer all of your questions and prepare you for the treatment. Here are some basic guidelines:
- Make-up will be removed from face by our nurse/beautician.
- Numbing cream will be applied for half an hour to make the area numb.
- Ice will be applied to minimize any discomfort.
- The face will be cleansed with an antiseptic.
- Sculptra mixed with anaesthetic medicine will be injected in small amounts into the skin using a very fine needle.

What can I expect after treatment?
Immediately following a treatment session with Sculptra, mild redness or swelling may occur in the treatment area. These signs and symptoms usually go away on their own in a few hours to a few days. You should massage the treated area at least twice a day for 5 minutes for 1 week after your treatment.
How quickly can I get back to my daily activities?
Most patients feel comfortable going back to their normal activities following treatment. No downtime is usually required.
What are the possible side effects of treatment with Sculptra?
The most common side effects that patients see with the use of Sculptra include injection-related side effects at the site of the injection such as mild redness, or swelling. These side effects generally last for a few hours to a few days. You can easily cover up any redness with make-up, foundation or concealer. You may go back to work immediately after your treatment session.
Who should not use Sculptra?
You should not use Sculptra f you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How much does Sculptra cost?
Each vial of Sculptra costs RM1800 . If you would like to inject only partial areas on the face, 1 vial is sufficient during the first injection session. After 1 month, you would need another session using another 1 vial, which costs another RM1800. For people older than 50 or 60 years old, or those who need to have more facial volume enhancement, 3 or more treatment sessions are necessary.
If you prefer to reduce wrinkles, increase volume and create lift for the whole face, we use 2 vials costing RM3600 in total.
