What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable substance containing Poly-L-Lactic Acid. Sculptra is a popular option for restoring a more youthful look to the face, hands and feet. It is a collagen regeneration product. It is an FDA-approved soft tissue filler that stimulates your skin’s cells to produce new collagen, thereby reversing the loss of the skin’s fullness. It is used to fill and recontour areas where underlying supportive collagen and fat tissue have diminished with age or have been damaged by injury or disease. Sculptra is most often used for the temples, smile lines, cheeks and depressions around the eyes.
Sculptra is also used to restore fullness to the hands and feet for a natural, younger appearance. It helps to dimish the appearance of unsightly veins and tendons which tend to become prominent as we age.
Sculptra removes wrinkles and adds volume to the injected area by stimulating our body to produce it's own collagen. Therefore it needs several sessions of injections and the results would show gradually rather than immediately.
Sculptra Results
The results of Sculptra injections are not immediate. However, the effects of the treatments are enduring and will continue to improve. Skin thickness can increase over the course of several weeks, and will require a second treatment to touch up the area. Unlike other absorbable injectables that last only a few months, the benefits of Sculptra can last up to three years. The results is visible after 4-6 weeks and can last 3 years. The results improve over time as our collagen production increases. No one can ever guess you had an aesthetic procedure done as the results is very natural and subtle.
How Is It Done?
Sculptra treatments consist of a simple series of injections into the deeper layers of skin. Each treatment takes only minutes to perform, and is usually done in a series of two sessions.
The Sculptra injections are mixed with a numbing medicine called lidocaine so it is not painful. We apply ice, numbing cream and numbing medicine into the Sculptra solution so it is more comfortable. The procedure takes about 5 minutes for each hand or foot.
Side Effects
The short term side effect of any injection, including Sculptra, is redness which goes away in a few hours, swelling or mild bruising which subsides in less than a week. To make the redness, swelling or bruising go away faster, you can apply ice over the area 2-3 times a day, for 5 minutes each time. There is very little downtime. There is usually no long term side effect and is very safe. Sculptra is not suitable for people with autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, SLE and rheumatoid arthritis.
Frequency Of Treatment
You can inject Sculptra once every month. Usually 2 sessions are needed for good results. Those older than 50 or 60 years old, or those who with severe volume loss due to aging can opt for 3 sessions.
Costs For Hands Treatment
Each vial of Sculptra costs RM1800 . We use 1 vial on each treatment session to do both hands. For the first session, it costs RM1800. After a minimum interval of 1 month, we use another 1 vial to do both hands so it costs another RM1800 for the second session.
Costs For Feet Treatment
We need 2 vials to do both feet as the feet has a bigger surface area than the hands. For the first session, it costs RM3600. After a minimum interval of 1 month, we use another 2 vials to do both feet, so the second session costs another RM3600.
Below are photos of our client who has injected Sculptra on the hands:
Before Sculptra, veins and tendons are prominent and there is loss of volume on the back of the hands.
After Sculptra has been injected, the hands has more volume, the skin becomes smoother, veins and tendons become less prominent.
The hand on the left has not been injected yet, whereas the hand on the right has been injected.
Both hands has been injected. Results can last for 3 years.
