What is Dermaroller?
Mediviron UOA Aesthetic Clinic offers Dermaroller, also known as micro-needling procedure.
The Dermaroller is a precision engineered medical instrument. It is a hand held roller which has 192 surgical steel micro-needles of 0.25mm length which are able to part the pores of the top layer of the skin without damaging it. The pores close again an hour later, but during that time, your skin is significantly better able to absorb and benefit from skin creams and lotions.
While performing the rolling movement, our staff will apply iDerm Skin Brightening Serum to the treatment area. Because your pores are open during the procedure, it can absorb the serum very well.
The iDerm Skin Brightening solution which contains a mixture of :
- Hyaluronic acid: for deep hydration
- Peptides: to promote healthy skin
- Arbutin: pigmentation reduction
- Licorice extract: skin brightening
- Vitamin C: anti-oxidant, fights free
radicals
- Minerals: for cell function
Immediately after the procedure, our staff will apply iS Clinical Pro Heal Serum to hasten your skin recovery, Hydra Cool Serum for intensive hydration and soothing sensation, followed by SPF25 Treatment Sunscreen to protect the treated area. There are no additional charges for serum applications during or after the Dermaroller procedure.
The picture below shows a magnified view of the device. The micro-needles are only 0.25 millimetre long so you will feel minimal discomfort when the Dermaroller is used.
How does the Dermaroller work?
As our aesthetic doctor roll the skin roller over your skin, it creates pin point punctures into the dermis – the majority of which are simply pushing your pores open temporarily. This is perceived by the body as damage, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. The human body reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. By persistently triggering the healing process, you encourage your body to continue healing until you obtain the desirable result.
What are the benefits of using Dermaroller?
The Dermaroller is a revolutionary device which has the ability to naturally stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin without damaging it. It has numerous beneficial effects:
Reduce wrinkles and fine lines
Stretch mark treatment
Cellulite reduction
Scar removal including pitted acne scar removal
Anti-ageing
Skin brightening and pigmentation reduction

Dermaroller for wrinkles
The Dermaroller can be used to treat deep wrinkles, fine wrinkles, skin creases and lines such as crows feet, smile lines, frown lines on the forehead, around the mouth, on the neck and jaw line, the decolletes (chest), the backs of the hands and more.
Dermaroller for stretch marks
Stretch mark removal is just one of the many benefits associated with the use of the Dermaroller. Stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched suddenly. The outer layer of skin isn’t affected, but the dermis becomes thinner and develops tiny tears. The blood vessels that lie under the skin show through, giving the marks a reddish colour. Later, when the blood vessels contract, the purplish colour fades to silvery white.
The most common causes of stretch marks are pregnancy (between 75% and 90% of women develop stretch marks during pregnancy), adolescent growth spurts, rapid muscle growth and weight loss or gain.
The process of treating stretch marks happens as the Dermaroller stimulates the production of new collagen fibres and elastin in the skin. The stretch marks fill in, the skin thickens, tightens and elasticity is restored. The rate at which stretch marks removal can be achieved varies depending on the severity of the case, but noticeable changes can be seen in after a few sessions.
Dermaroller for cellulite reduction
Cellulite reduction can be accomplished with regular treatment with the Dermaollerr. Cellulite treatment can be carried out on the legs, thighs, hips, buttocks, stomach and arms.
Dermaroller for acne scars or surgery scars
Acne scar reduction are a common use for the Dermaroller, along with treating surgery scars, pitting of the skin, large pores, chicken pox scars, burn scars and more. Our iDerm Skin Brightening Serum also helps reduce mild pigmentation and rehydrates the skin.
Who can use Dermaroller?
It can be used by both men and women. Skin micro-needling with our Dermaroller may be carried out safely on all types of skin and all skin colours. The epidermis and melanocytes in the basal area are not damaged, so there’s very minimal risk to all skin types and colours.
Even the stars of Hollywood are using cosmetic microneedling to give their skin a smooth and youthful glow. Probably the most famous celebrities reported to have Dermaroller treatment are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Who cannot use Dermaroller?
You cannot use Dermaroller if you are pregnant. You should not combine Dermaroller with Fractional CO2 laser or skin peel on the same session as these procedures are more aggressive. However, you can combine Dermaroller with other aesthetic procedures such as Botox, dermal fillers, mesotherapy, Medlite C6 or Candela GentleYag laser.
What kind of Dermaroller does Mediviron UOA Aesthetic Clinic use?
We use high quality 1mm Dermarollers from France which carry the medical CE mark. Other cheap rollers are often disposable and are not made from high grade surgical steel (so they can blunt or break)
The Dermaroller we use is made to the highest specification so that it can be reused intensively for 5 sessions. It is manufactured in facilities listed with the FDA and is manufactured / quality controlled in accordance with ISO/ CE/ FDA standards, with each individual roller receiving a visual inspection under magnification. It is gamma sterilized for safety.
Each of our client will get their own Dermaroller, which we do not share with other clients for safety and hygiene reasons. At the end of their session with us, we will give the Dermaroller to client.
How long does the Dermaroller procedure take?
You will have a free consultation with our aesthetic doctor, which will take about 30 minutes. We will apply numbing cream for about 20 minutes to make the procedure more comfortable. The actual rolling process takes 15 minutes. You will probably spend about 1 hour in our clinic.
How frequent is the Dermaroller session?
You can have a session once every month.
How soon can the results be seen?
The speed at which you will get results depends on what you are treating and how extensively your body needs to remodel the affected area. This process of skin remodelling can go on for months after each Dermaroller treatment, but noticeable results can be seen within just a few weeks. Your skin naturally renews itself every 40 days, so with a little stimulation changes can be dramatic and fast.
Does the skin rolling process hurt?
We apply numbing cream for 20 minutes prior to the treatment. We also apply ice to numb the area of treatment. Most of our clients find the procedure tolerable.
You will not require any oral painkiller medicine as it is not painful.
What are the side effects of Dermaroller?
You may experience some mild discomfort, redness or tightening sensation for a few hours. It can give a sensation similar to mild sunburn. These will disappear and are only temporary.
What should a client do after the procedure?
You can apply make-up to hide the redness if you like. Do not go swimming for the first 3 days to prevent infection. It is okay to have showers or to wash the treated area with water. We recommend the use of sunscreen SPF 25 at least twice a day for a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks.
It is not necessary to take any painkillers are the discomfort is very minimal.
How much does the Dermaroller cost?
We charge RM1800 for 5 sessions of Dermaroller.
